Where did Thai Bodywork originate?

Thai Bodywork, also called Thai Yoga massage, Vedic massage or Nuad Boram (as it is called in Thai), is a tradition over 2500 years old. Although now not prominently practiced in India, it is said to get it’s roots from ancient Indian culture. Many also believe there are influences from China, Japan and Tibet coming about through commerce, trade, and the introduction of different spiritual traditions. The founder of Thai massage is believed to be a doctor from northern India. Known as Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha, he was a close friend of the Buddha and also served as physician to the sangha, the order of Buddhist monks and nuns. Practitioners of Thai Bodywork usually receive in depth training from a teacher trained in Thailand.
