Money and Reiki
How much money should we pay to take a Reiki class or get a Reiki treatment? Or how much should we charge to teach Reiki or to give a Reiki treatment? The real issue here is with the question, not the answer. The word "should" in the question makes it appear that there is one right answer to these questions. Simply put, there is no correct answer!
As far as Reiki classes are concerned...Ask yourself, is there a "right" or "correct" amount I should pay to get the teachings of Reiki and the initiations from someone who I feel is the right teacher for me? Am I willing to pay any amount for the right teacher or not? Personally, if I didn't like the teacher, I wouldn't take the class from him/her even if it were free. Is the opposite true? If I found the right teacher for me, would I be willing to pay any amount to study with him/her...even $10,000.
I think of it like this. How many other things in life are we willing to spend that kind of money on....(like college, a new car, 1,428 movie theatre tickets, 660 meals at a restaurant, etc.)...but why not Reiki? I have heard more than once when someone hears about the $10,000 fee for the master training, "That is the size of a down payment on a house!". Yes, there are lots of things that $10,000 can buy. But being able to teach and pass on Reiki for me is priceless.
Reiki for me is a spiritual tradition. It reminds me that money is not as important as we make it out to be. Yes, we need money for our security, no doubt about it. But when we make our transition from this life, we cannot take our money with us. What counts in life is not how much money we have in the end, but how we have lived our life. By living by the Reiki Precepts and using Reiki daily in our lives, we are living a spiritually rich life.
There are pros and cons to paying/charging $10,000 for Reiki Master level training. I encourage you to calmly and honestly contemplate these pros and cons for yourself. Our tendency is to react to ideas in life and not calmly debate the pros and cons. When you realize that there are pros and cons, that is the first step in realizing that there is no amount one "should" or "should not" charge.
Besides, most people get all that they want or need in Reiki 1 and it is very affordable. In the Reiki 1 class, you learn how to give treatments and can start your life long practice of the 5 Reiki Precepts!
